Caribbean Cruise
From March 21 until April 4 2008 I was a passenger onboard P&O’s cruise ship Arcadia. Having flown out to Barbados from East Midlands airport, we visited Grenada, St Lucia, St Kitts and Tortola before setting sail across the Atlantic ocean for the week-long trip to Madeira. A grand total of 5 hours ashore before heading back to Southampton and back home (to York).
People often ask why cruising is appealing, particularly since it has a reputation for only being for rather overweight elderly people. I’m a great fan of food and wine, so that helps – the food on-board is absolutely amazing – there’s even a Gary Rhodes’ Restaurant. Also, there is always an huge amount to do; from entertainment (music, comedy, magic) every evening after dinner, to recitals and other events during the days. On sea-days, there are always ballroom and Latin dance classes, and I was lucky enough to end up partnering another young person (there were probably only 30 under-35s out of the 2000 passengers), and had an amazing time. There’s also the tradition of Ship Cricket every afternoon, which is a very bizarre adaptation of normal cricket suitable for a rather small space!

Isle of Man
I’ve never been to the Isle of Man, so at the end of June I’ve decided to head there for three nights, with my mum, who has also never been. Dad needs to work, so sadly for him, he’s not invited this time! We’ll only have a couple of days, so hopefully the weather will be lovely, and we’ll be able to have a good explore. Mum doesn’t seem too keen on the idea of hiring a car and haring around the TT course at breakneck speed, so it’ll perhaps have to be more sedate pursuits. It all depends little on mum’s ankle ligaments healing properly in time!
Switzerland and Alsace
In August 2008 the plan is to return to two of my favourite places – the Bernese Oberland and the Alsace – to walk, and latterly to buy wine.
It sounds like you like great travel and a really good bottle of wine, how does sitting back on the sun deck of a Luxury Catamaran in the Galapagos Islands, with a glass of your favorite wine, listening to the waves crashing against the shore carrying all of your thoughts accross the ocean sound. Look me up, I might be able to help. I really liked your blog.
